A man from Leicester has turned a simple van into a growing local service, helping residents move, deliver goods, and clear unwanted items across the city.
The 42-year-old, who started his “man with a van” business just over a year ago, said the idea came after noticing how difficult it was for people to find affordable transport for small jobs. Using his own van, he began offering services through social media and word of mouth.
“At first it was just helping friends move furniture,” he explained. “Then friends of friends started calling, and it grew from there.”
Now, the business operates daily across Leicester and surrounding areas, assisting with house moves, furniture pickups, and even last-minute deliveries. Customers have praised the service for being reliable and reasonably priced compared to larger companies.
Local residents say the service has become especially useful during busy periods, such as student move-ins and house relocations. “It’s quick, simple, and much cheaper than hiring a big removal firm,” said one customer.
Despite the growing demand, the owner says he plans to keep the business small and personal. “I like being able to help people directly. That’s what makes it worthwhile.”
He is now considering expanding slightly by adding another vehicle, but insists the focus will remain on providing a friendly and dependable local service.
